Introducing Chess Valley Equine’s 4-legged blogger

Many of you will have seen my pictures on the Chess Valley Equine Facebook page, but I thought I’d do the formal introductions here. My name is SuperTed, Ted to my friends, and I live with Olwen, bringer of food, supplier of scratches, and, although I haven’t yet experienced this side of her – provider of veterinary treatment. Apparently she’s a dab hand with a needle, but hopefully, she won’t feel the need to practice on me.

I was born on the 12th May 2017. My mother was rescued from a less than perfect situation before I was born, and had a few months of good food and management, so she was in good shape by the time I put in an appearance. Because of her poor start in life, I’ll need a bit more attention than most foals my age, for instance, I will need to be vaccinated earlier than most, as she wasn’t vaccinated. My field mate, who is much the same age as me, won’t have to be vaccinated until she’s 6 months old, as she will have immunity from her mothers milk. I’m not too thrilled about this, and I’d like to issue a timely reminder – check your horses vaccination schedules, and make sure you book them in for boosters in good time. They won’t thank you if they have to restart the course – 3 needles instead of 1…

This is just the start of my journey from foal to fully grown, healthy member of society. There will be lots to share throughout my journey, most of it useful information for the owners of other young horses, interspersed with a little bit of fun and games – foal style. Do keep popping back to see what I’m up to!
